 Introduction

Suffice it to say that the Babcock International Model United Nations (BIMUN) has proven to be an example worthy of emulation by other MUNs and of course a force to be reckoned with. This has become evident in her Post-Conference activities. One of the Post-conference activities that has generated several accolades by individuals is the Medical Outreach and Distribution of Relief Materials to the Internally Displaced Person’s Camp. Certainly, the purpose was to distribute materials to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) and also to spend quality time with them, to show them love and give them hope. Statistically, the Internally Displaced Persons at the Camp are more than 2,500. As a team, we believe in global development; essentially, three (3) of the seventeen (17) Sustainable Development Goals were highly emphasized. They are:

  1. End poverty in all its forms everywhere;
  2. End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture and
  3. Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.

 Objectives Include:

  • To meet those in need of outreach services at a location where those in need are.
  • To increase access to health services for people living in a location where health services are limited or non-existent.
  • To make a big difference in the lives of people.
  • To distribute relief materials to internally displaced persons.

 No doubt, all these were achieved at the Internally Displaced Person’s Camp, Durumi – Our choiced location for execution.

 Achievements:

  • We visited the Internally Displaced Person’s Camp, Durumi, FCT, Abuja, Nigeria.
  • We were able to partner with the Department of Public Health, Babcock University and their support was immeasurable as they help in the sensitization of persons in the Camp on prevention of breast cancer.
  • We distributed relief materials such as clothes, shoes, bags, etc to persons in the Camp.
  • We also distributed food items sponsored by Babcock University students moved with pity and compassion for the needy at the Camp.
  • We facilitated a sanitation exercise at the Camp to show an example to persons in the Camp the importance of a clean environment and personal hygiene in a healthy lifestyle.

 Conclusively, we appeal to the government, non-governmental organization and individuals to visit the internally displaced person’s camps across the federation and provide necessary social amenities for survival. It is important to provide good educational system for children living in IDP Camps so as to secure their future and achieve their dreams.
